Dear Friends,

We are entering a new year and leaving behind the old. Unfortunately, many Americans may be tempted to look back on 2001 as a year of tragedy and loss. That would be the obvious conclusion, seen by the normal sight most of us rely on. But as a yogi, I have been trained to close my normal eyes at times and meditate on a higher plane, taking in the vision gained uniquely by focusing energy at the "third eye", traditionally said to be located in the forehead.

When you roll your eyes upward to focus on that place, the master glands secrete, allowing you to tap into higher awareness.

So as we move into the new year - into a cycle where the planet will be gifted with new clarity and vision about humanity's purpose here on Earth - it is fitting that we all turn our energy to that place where higher consciousness flows.

Let me share with you some insights that have come forth recently from my own third eye. I pray they may bring some fresh perspectives to you as they have for me.

• All challenges are gifts. Don't run away from them - embrace them.

• Joy comes to you every moment you take a fresh breath. Every fresh breath opens a new door in the mind. Every open door in the mind brings new learning and allows you to reach out to someone else.

• Love never dies. If you felt love even once, it is always with you. Don't cover it over with grief.

• Forgiveness is the first step. Acceptance is the last.

• Trust everyone and no one. Drop expectations. One day someone will act like a saint and the next day like a stinker. You can count on both - you just can't predict the timing.

• Judge no one and no thing. Simply let it all continue to unfold.

• The heart of compassion is the only safe refuge. But the heart is never safe until it rules over the head.

• The "new year" is simply another opportunity to do a better job at learning the lessons of the "old year".

• Never refer to yourself as "only human", for human is divine. The word comes from two Sanskrit words that mean "light of the soul" and describe how Creator fashioned us uniquely among all living things.

• Never believe "all is lost" as long as you aren't. And even if you think you are, God never is. So relax.

• Remember this above all else: you are great and perfect and the best, just as you are now, even if you are a great and perfect mess! Creator didn't goof when you were created. So stop acting like a goof. Claim your birthright. Be the best you on Earth.
