December, 2002 Happiness is Your Birthright! --Yogi Bhajan |
Dear Friends, Over the past two-plus decades I have heard my teacher, Yogi Bhajan, say that phrase countless times. I thought I knew what happiness meant. I saw it as my "mission" - teaching, healing, helping and uplifting everywhere I could. This past year has taught me new understandings about the meaning of the word happiness. Happiness comes with love - love expressed in a thousand ways, with countless people. Love is feeling your own smile coming from deep within you, radiating to yourself and to others. Love is living without criticism and judgement. Love is seeing God in all things, in all people. Love is you and me. If more people truly loved themselves and their lives they would claim happiness as their birthright and pull back from criticism, greed and the feeling of separation from others and God, and there would be no more war. Yogiji also spoke these words: "Love is the ultimate state of human behavior where compassion prevails and kindness rules." Can you reach that state? Can you step back from seeing what you think you don't have and see instead all the goodness that you do have? Can you move away from emptiness to fullness? The trip is far shorter and less difficult than you may think. Stop trying to get the love you want. Give it, and live it yourself. Exercise compassion instead of criticism. See others with your heart first and don't let your head override that vision. And then expect nothing in return for anything you give. Only goodness will come back to you, I promise you, but it may come from places you least expect. Don't just count your blessings, live them and let them shine. This past year an event happened I least expected - the man who had grown with me over 18 years to the point where we became each other's best friends asked me to marry him, and I accepted. Throughout all those years I learned how to love, how to come from compassion and drop judgement, to uplift and serve the good in myself and someone else. In all that I am and do, I will never live any other way than the way of love. With love, you can never fail. We are blessed to be in each other's lives, my husband and I, just as surely as I am blessed to be in your lives and I am blessed that you are all in my life. I am grateful to each and every one of you. I look into your faces and I see your love. I pray that you will live that love to the fullest, without reservation. That is living your truth, and your truth is happiness. Bless you in all ways always, |

To hear Sangeet's message, click on "RealAudio" or "WMA" above. "RealAudio" and "WMA" are different types of audio files. You can click on either one, it just depends on which sound player software your computer has. "RealAudio " requires a "RealOne" or "RealAudio" player (or compatible) and "WMA" requires a "Windows Media" player (or compatible). "RealAudio" tends to be a little more reliable and better sounding, while "WMA" (built into Windows) is more wide spread. You can't hurt anything by clicking on either one. If nothing happens or an error message pops up, then your computer doesn't have the appropriate software installed. If that is the case, you can get either one of the free players by clicking here. |
